Skarb potato: variety characteristics, reviews

Potatoes are a vegetable crop that is widely distributed throughout the world. Breeders created a lot of varieties of this vegetable, which differ in taste, color, shape and ripening. Early maturing varieties are suitable for early harvest. And for long-term storage, it is better to plant mid-season and late species. One of these is Skarb potato, the name of which is translated as a treasure. We give a detailed description of this variety, consider his photos and reviews of gardeners.

Origin

The potato variety Skarb got its start in Belarus. Its authors are Z.A. Semenova, A.E. Zuykov, E.G. Ryndina and L.I. Pishchenko. Breeders brought him to the Research Institute of Potato and Fruit and Vegetable Growing in 1997. And in 2002 the variety was officially included in the state register of Russia. Now it is possible to bring it into the country, multiply and sell planting material.

Potatoes are suitable for planting in the Central, Ural, North-West and Volga-Vyatka regions of the Russian Federation. It is also popular in Moldova, Belarus and Ukraine.

Characteristic

The Skarb potato has an average ripening period and has table purpose. Compared with early varieties, harvesting is done 25-30 days later. The growing season is on average 95-110 days.

Description of the plant and tubers

The variety is characterized by the formation of semi-sprawling and medium-sized bushes, whose height can reach 60 cm. The plant is covered with small, oval-oblong leaves with smooth edges.

On light green stalks white-white inflorescences of ten flowers are formed. Pollination occurs naturally. Sometimes after it green berries are formed, which usually peel off. They do not affect yield.

Each bush can bring from 12 to 15 tubers. They have an oval shape and a smooth peel of golden color, on which you can find small eyes. The flesh of the potatoes is tender, rich yellow. Tuber weight varies from 160 to 250 g.

Since the sugar content of the Skarb potato is 0.4%, it has a sweetish taste. Vegetable contains no more than 18% starch, so it is widely used in cooking. Potatoes are made into chips, added to salads and soups.

Benefits

Advantages of potato varieties Skarb:

  • resistance to drought and low temperatures;
  • excellent presentation;
  • good yield;
  • can be stored for a long time;
  • excellent taste;
  • resistance to many diseases.

Potatoes do not crumble during cooking, because the composition has a large amount of starch. Tubers Skarb smooth and large, so this variety is in demand, and many gardeners grow it for sale.

disadvantages

This variety also has several disadvantages:

  • vulnerability to late blight of tubers and leaves;
  • may be affected by ring rot;
  • shoots may appear uneven and long;
  • the young plant is sensitive to waterlogging;
  • Before planting, the tubers must be germinated.

Cut potatoes are not used as a seed. If you provide the potato with regular care, you can avoid many problems.

Yield and ripening time

For economic purposes, it is a table variety that belongs to the middle late. From the moment of emergence of shoots to the full maturity of potato tubers, no more than 85-95 days pass.

Skarb is a high-yielding variety. From one bush gardeners get from 12 to 15 tubers. With proper care, up to 7 kg of potatoes can be collected from a square meter of a bed, and up to 70,000 kg from a hectare of land.

Planting potatoes

To get a bountiful harvest, you need to study the characteristics of planting this species.

Potatoes Skarb are planted in the heated soil. The air temperature should not be lower than + 20 ° С, and the ground should not be lower than 10 ° С. Usually landing begin in the second half of May.

Selection and processing area

For planting, you must choose a sunny and dry area with a flat surface. Vegetable grows well on fertile and slightly acidic soil. On such a land, plantain and clover usually grow.

The best predecessors of this crop are legumes, cucumbers, onions, cabbage and winter rye.

Plot for potato Skarb begin to cook in the fall. It is dug up to a depth of 25-30 cm and cleaned from weeds and roots. The following fertilizers are applied to the soil (per 1 m2):

  • compost or humus - 1 bucket;
  • superphosphate - 4-5 Art. l .;
  • potassium salt - 2 tbsp. l

One more bucket of sand is added to the clay soil. In the spring, nitrogen fertilizers are applied to the site.

Important! It is not recommended to plant potatoes every year at the same place. The soil is depleted and pests accumulate in it.

Tuber preparation

A month before planting, the tubers are taken from the basement. They are carefully examined, rotted and damaged throw. Suitable for planting healthy potatoes about the same size.

In order to germinate the tubers faster, they are removed for 2-3 days in a room where the air temperature is between 35 and 40aboutC. Then they are put on the bottom of the box and put in a lighted place with room temperature. When sprouts reach 3–4 cm in height, potatoes can be planted.

But before planting, it is desirable to spray it with Prestige or copper sulfate solution. For its preparation you need 1 tsp. substances add to 3 liters of water and mix thoroughly. Such processing is the prevention of phytosporosis, which can affect Skarb potato varieties.

Important! Medium sized tubers are chosen for planting, as the larger ones produce a smaller crop.

Landing rules

Potatoes are planted at a depth of 8-10 cm at a distance of 30 to 35 cm from each other. Between rows, at least 60 cm should be left in order to make it easier to take care of the crop.

In accordance with the landing scheme, dig trenches or make holes. Rows are located in the direction from south to north. So landings will be better warm and illuminated.

If the site has not been fertilized since autumn, a handful of humus and ashes are added to each well. Also under each bush you can make a teaspoon of superphosphate and potash salt. Then put the tubers in the wells with sprouts up and covered with a layer of soil.

Care features

After planting, the potato variety Skarb needs attention and meticulous care. To do this correctly, you need to familiarize yourself with the features of watering, weeding, hilling and feeding.

Loosening and weeding

During the entire growing season, soil loosening is recommended to be carried out 3 times. It is convenient to combine it with weeding. Approximately 7-10 days after planting in a garden planted with potatoes, you need to walk a rake. This will help get rid of young weeds.

After the appearance of sprouts, the area between the rows must be re-burst. This will facilitate the access of water and air to the roots of potatoes.

Hilling

Hilling refers to the process of filling the lower part of a plant with fresh and loose soil. This contributes to a 20% yield increase. The event should be held in the morning or evening after the rain. The weather should be cloudy or cloudy.

For the entire season, the Skarb potato bushes are spud three times:

  1. When the height of seedlings reaches 10 cm.
  2. Two weeks after the first time.
  3. During flowering.

Hilling promotes the formation of new roots and tubers. The soil is saturated with oxygen, so the growth of root crops is enhanced.

Top dressing

Potatoes of this variety are fed by spraying the aerial part of the plant or by applying fertilizer to the well. Over the entire growing season, the procedure should be carried out three times:

  • During the formation of the tops. Prepare a solution of 300 g of ash and 10 liters of water, sprayed the plant. Or make an infusion of weeds and water it.
  • During the formation of buds. Potatoes watered with a solution of 3 tbsp. l ash, 1 tbsp. l potassium sulfate and 10 liters of water. Per meter of beds - 1 liter of fertilizer.
  • During flowering. Under each bush make 2 tbsp. l superphosphate, or watered with a solution of 1 cup of mullein, 2 tbsp. l Nitrofoski and 10 liters of water. On one plant - 0,5 l of fertilizer.

When applying dry fertilizer under a bush, you need to pile up. After rain or watering, the mixture will dissolve in the soil.

Important! With proper and timely feeding, the yield and resistance of potatoes to diseases will increase.

Watering

Over the entire period of growth and development, the plant must be watered at least three times. In arid and hot weather, irrigation should be carried out as the soil dries out. Watering potatoes Skarb carried out at the rate of 10 liters of water per 1 m2. If the summer is cloudy and rainy, you can limit loosening and weeding the soil. 15 days before harvesting, watering must be stopped.

Diseases and pests

Potato varieties Skarb resistant to leaf mosaic, viral diseases, scab, wet and dry rot. It is almost immune to the golden nematode and black leg. But the leaves can be affected by blight, which is manifested by the darkening of the leaves and their death. Sometimes, tubers can form ring rot, which can be recognized by yellow and brown spots.

In order not to lose the crop, it is recommended to carry out preventive treatment of the bushes. The occurrence of phytophthora is prevented by spraying of copper sulphate solution and high hilling. Processing should be carried out before flowering.

The emergence of ring rot can be prevented by the introduction of potash fertilizers. Before planting the root crop is not cut.

If the Colorado potato beetle has appeared on potato varieties Scrub, it is better to assemble it manually. Chemical preparations should be used only when mass pests appear, as they can change the taste of potatoes. The most common insecticides are: Corado, Prestige, Aktara, On the spot and Prestige.

Collection and storage

15 days before harvesting, watering is stopped, and the above-ground part of the plant is mowed, leaving short stems without foliage. The tops are harvested and burned. Cleaning is best done in dry and warm weather.

Potatoes are carefully dried and sorted. Damaged by digging or root crops with signs of disease should be postponed separately. Selected potatoes are harvested for 2-3 weeks in a dry place for final ripening.

The main storage Skarb cleaned in a room where the air temperature is maintained at 2 - 5aboutC, and humidity is 80 - 85%. Potatoes for planting folded in a separate container.

Gardeners reviews

Marina, 45, UfaKartoshka Skarb occupies more than half of my area. Soot it early in the second half of April. Bushes grow sprawling and thick. Occasionally plants spud and collect Colorado beetles, which every year becomes smaller. I dig up potatoes in the middle of August. Sometimes from one root it is possible to collect half a bucket of tasty and large tubers.

Anna, 25 years old. KirovKartofel Skarb has been grown for a long time. Loved him for the sweetish taste and flesh of yellow color. The variety is unpretentious, the main thing is to add compost or humus to the soil and spud the plant in time. When cooking does not boil soft, I add it to salads and soups.

Ivan, 32, Nizhny Novgorod In the variety of Skarb, I was attracted by the fact that potatoes can be stored for a long time and at the same time preserve all their qualities. This year I didn’t even have to dig a young potato, as they had eaten up last year’s autumn.

Conclusion

Belarusian potato Skarb has a sweetish taste and golden color, so this variety attracts the attention of many gardeners. Fragrant dishes from it will satisfy any gourmet. But this kind of potato is picky about growing conditions. Therefore, a bountiful harvest can be harvested only if all recommendations for care and agricultural technology are observed.
